A WEEKEND IN BANGKOK

Over the last few months, I've been to Bangkok a few times, a dirty city full of beautiful temples, ladyboys, prostitution, and street food. But when asking anyone that has been there before, so many people say they don't like Bangkok. I too fell into that statistic, the city smells, it's dirty, polluted and crowded. However, none of that stopped me from visiting this unique city multiple times and it wasn't until the second time that I actually appreciated it. This is why I recommend for you to give it a try as well, at least for a short period, three days is more than enough time for your first time there. Here are some things to do with a weekend in Bangkok.

Motortaxi

All throughout Bangkok, there are many means of transportation, including Uber, taxis, tuk-tuks, Bangkok Transportation System (BTS), walking and my very favorite the Motor Taxi. Scooters are a huge part of the Thai culture, they are a fast and effective way to get from one point to the next. With the Motor Taxi service, you can hop on and ride throughout the entire city inexpensively. There are guys lined up in orange vests just waiting to be approached so they can make a living (you can bargain with them too). It's an extremely fun and cheap way to see the city, get from one place to another, and get your adrenaline flowing a little. These guys weave in and out from traffic and don't care what's in their way. Keep your knees in tight though; you don't want to get clipped, and don't forget to purchase travel insurance in case anything happens.

Tuk-tuk

Another fun transportation method is the tuk-tuk. This one will cost you roughly the same as the motor taxi but will take double or triple the time. There's always traffic in Bangkok. The guys are extremely friendly and know the city very well. Most of them want to chat up a bit so be friendly and ask them how their day is going.

Streetfood

This is something I will miss so much when I am back home or anywhere for that matter. The street food was phenomenal and probably the best street food I've had in all of Asia. Near the train stations is where most of the street food can be found. Some of the bigger stations have more stands than others but no matter where you go for street food it will be incredible. Serving locals and tourists literally all day long you can stop in from breakfast till supper and get some of the best food of your life for practically nothing.

Grand Palace

I always felt that if you see one temple you see them all, (similar to cathedrals in Europe). However, Thailand is filled with beautiful temples all throughout the country. One of the most known temples in Bangkok is the Grand Palace. This palace is surrounded by walls more than a mile long and is mostly made of wood. The palace is beautiful and definitely worth checking out to see what the rave is about. Also a great opportunity to photograph monks. Book your tickets to the Grand Palace here.

Floating market/regular markets

There are a ton of different floating markets around Bangkok, like any tourist attraction these are a total tourist trap. Either way totally worth checking out. Do a little research before you go to find one that won't be as busy. Different markets are open on different days of the week and some are open during specific hours. No matter where you go I recommend going in the morning so they are not as packed. If at all possible try to hire a local to take you to the markets where only the locals go and shop, these will have less of the knick-knacks and more of the locally grown produce. Book your floating market tour here.

Along with the infamous red light district, how cheap the city actually is and Thai massages, and many different things to do, Bangkok is definitely a city you should visit at least once. But be warned it is a lot to take in at once, and it might take a couple visits to actually appreciate the city.
